Sorry, it’s so late people.
I wasn’t aware of the virtual movement until this evening. I still wanted to get my post in as well to show support and solidarity in the effort. Reading the original post and several in the blogosphere it hit me and I found a new hope within.
Remember the Jena 6.
No matter where you stand on wrong or right. Accountability or responsibility. What cannot be denied is this the hundreds of thousands of voices that spoke out about injustice. The wrong that was done. The miscarriage in the American Justice system. It was beautiful to see people of different faiths, races, and lifestyles pull together to stand up against what was plainly wrong. The time has come again. What’s beautiful about our nation is the freedom we have. Yes, attempts at silence can occur, but we have powerful tools at our fingertips. Cell phones that allow us to forward texts. Computers that provide access to anyone who can type and use spell check to start a blog and create a following. Youtube to posts videos that inspire, encourage, and uplift. Let’s use the technology we have for good. Not just to forward silly videos and jokes, but to really bring a change.
It always appears darkest before the sun breaks through. Deliverance is on the horizon, let’s do our part to reach the place we’re meant to be. Don’t stop. Don’t be discouraged by the negative press that are basically smears to breed fear. We know better. Start a voter registration drive in your area. Phone bank. Wear a t-shirt showing your support for your candidate and arm yourself with the facts to combat the lies. It’s like Mama Joseph said in Soul Food, one finger can’t do much, but five can pull together in a mighty fist. If we’re all out there collectively doing our part, what a mighty fist we have.

That’s a great idea Kingston…we’re doing Voter Registration at our church on Saturdays…any other ideas…I saw a bumper sticker yesterday it said, “Stop bitchin, start a revolution.” I’m ready to start a revolution.

maybe some of you and the church members can do other things in the coming weeks like a car wash and the cost is registering to vote. Gather a group of kids together have 2 or 3 adults take them around the community and encourage people to vote…educate them a little first in case people have questions.

That’s true. That’s something to think about. Thanks Kingston.

Great post! My mom, daughter and I went to the Orlando Obama campaign headquarters on Sunday and made some phone calls for the campaign. Some of my girlfriends were there and we’ve decided to go into some of our communities and do voter registration drives every weekend until the deadline. We’re armed with voter registration applications everywhere we go (I have about 10 in my purse to be given out at any moment!). What’s even better is that there were quite a few people there who are doing the same. It’s inspiring to see that people are getting out and doing something about this election. BaRock the Vote!
