I have to say, I watched the first half, and then woke up with about 6 minutes left in the second half when Memphis was up by 6 or so. I went on to watch them choke at the free throw line when it counted the most.
When Kansas cut Memphis lead by 3 with the steal on the inbound play I was kind of shocked. They actually managed to force their will on Memphis, get the steal, and make the 3-pointer they were shooting for. That play was all about Kansas flexing their muscles and Bill Self, the Kansas coach, showing how good of a coach he truely is. That sequence couldn’t have been drawn up any better, and to execute it as intended was a sight to see. That was the beginning of Kansas’ come back.
Memphis losing a 9 point lead because they could only make 1 out of 5 free throws was hard to watch, but I did. When there was only 10.8 seconds left on the clock and Memphis was up by 3, I felt somewhat releaved until Mario Chalmers made a 3-pointer to send the game into overtime.
Players make plays, but I have to give credit to Coach Self, he managed the game well in the final minutes.
I wanted Memphis to win. They didn’t even though it looked like they had it in the bag.
Congrats to Kansas.
In hindsight, Kansas was in a similar situation with Davidson at the end of the game. Just so happens that those Wildcats weren’t prepared to execute a buzzer beating play. I had no idea Davidson was good enough to make it that far in the beginning.
Before the tournament started, the feeling I got when I thought about UNC being the highest number one seed and winning the championship weren’t good. I felt like they would make it to the final four and then lose to whoever they played there. I felt like they were missing something and my best friend felt the same way. When UNC met Kansas in the Final Four, I got to see exactly what UNC was missing, Bigs.
The same scenario played out with Memphis. They managed to keep their BIGS in the game and effective in their game plan. Once their senior Joey Dorsey fouled out, Memphis’ presence in the paint changed for the worse. All the other BIGS are tall, but not very dominant. They are more jump hook and perimeter players than grunt working clean up guys. This was evident when the game went into overtime. Kansas built their lead by playing good defense and getting easy points off of finger rolls, dunks, and lay-ups.
If Tyler Hansbrough had fouled out against Kansas, UNC would have been blown out by 30 points or more.
Kansas deserved to win that game because they fought for it, survived, and advanced.
CHOOO, CHOOO! THE LIL ENGINE THAT COULD RAN THEM OVER!!! Yes, I was screaming jumping up & down in my bed proud! I thought we choked in the end, and then Chalmers hit that 3 at the buzz…It was an awesome game, both teams played their hearts out, I was proud of them both..but you know GO JAYHAWKS!!!!
If there are 4 minutes left in the game and one team is up by 10 points and in the double bonus, the game is over (granted they make most of their free throws). I’ve watched enough games to see this rule play out accordingly. Well Memphis wasn’t up by 10, if they were, we would be talking about how shooting freet throws means something…but not that much!

I was waiting on this.

I caught the last six minutes since I had class last night. I knew Kansas was going to win. I hate to say it but I knew it.

We won! That’s all that matters

Yeah, Kansas took that one!
Sad to see it go down like that. Up by 9 points with 2 minutes left and lose? WOW!

That almost defies my 4 minute rule.
